Silkscreen Movie Posters
Made to advertise movies, Cuban film posters quickly became collectibles in their own right. Produced by the Instituto Cubano del Arte e Industria Cinematográficos (ICAIC) after the Cuban Revolution, these posters promoted both Cuban and international films. Instead of using photography, Cuba’s top graphic designers were given creative freedom, resulting in bold, imaginative designs that often became more memorable than the films themselves.
What truly sets Cuban movie posters apart is how they were made. Every poster was printed by hand using traditional silkscreen techniques—not just limited editions, but every single copy. This hands-on process gives each poster its own character and makes Cuban film posters some of the most distinctive and sought-after pieces of graphic art of the 20th century.
